The Lancaster County Conservancy maintains 22 nature preserves throughout the county, protecting their habitat and wildlife. The sites are open to the public and include numerous hiking trails. Information and directions on the preserves are available online or at the conservancy's main office.
The largest and most centrally located of all Lancaster County parks, the 544 acre Central Park hosts six rental pavilions, garden rental plots, a skate park, a camping area, an environmental center and more. The park is located just south of the City of Lancaster, just Chesapeake Street.
Established in 1900, Long's Park offers a variety of entertainment and recreational facilities in Lancaster. The park sits on 71 acres (29 ha) of land and includes several picnic pavilions, a petting zoo, a lake, trails, a playground and other amenities. An amphitheater on the grounds hosts concerts and festivals over the year and the park boasts an well-attended chicken barbeque.
